We are very happy to announce that 25 applicants were selected to receive the Travel Bursary to support their participation in the Documentary Convention in Leipzig 15-17 April 2019.
This year we received 65 applications from 36 countries.
The independent selection committee selected participants to receive support through the two different lines – Travel Bursary Arab World & Travel Bursary World.
We are looking forward to welcoming all Travel Bursary recipients in Leipzig in April!
In 2019 we have three slots scheduled for feedback sessions that run parallel to the rest of the DC program. Each session is attended by three or more experts and a facilitator to advise on different aspects of the film project such as: dramaturgic and creative aspects, legal or production aspects, technical areas and marketing and distribution.
2019 projects were selected in partnership with Sudan Film Factory and Zawya Distributions
All three directors and two producers will attend the DC’19 from 15-17 April, and screen their film each in a tailor-made closed session to a group of international expert consultants.
Following its successful inception in 2018, the date for the second edition of the Documentary Convention has been announced by the main partners DOX BOX and AFAC: 15-17 April 2019. The international convention will once again take place in Leipzig, this time at the Conference Center Salles De Pologne in the city center. Next to the main partners, DOK Leipzig and IDFA Bertha Fund have both renewed their collaboration, next to them new partners and exciting collaborations will be announced soon.
Registration for participation will be opened soon with the first themes and participants being announced in early 2019. Like last year the DC will run several support schemes for documentary professionals including a Travel Bursary and Feedback Screenings for documentary projects in a rough-cut stage.

From 12-14 April around 110 professionals followed the call by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture and DOX BOX and came to Leipzig for the first edition of the arab.european Documentary Convention. Participants came from over 30 countries of the Arab region, Europe and North America to discuss the status quo of the international documentary sector in versified scenarios in four expert-led modules ranging from closed expert groups to case studies and panel discussions and debates. The main themes of this firs edition were “Share/Save – Heritage of Arab Documentary”, “Ethics of Co-Production”, “Diversity in Documentary” and “Distribution in Challenging Times”. The outcome of the expert group’s work will soon be made available and will inform the planning for the next edition.
The intense three day program in Leipzig was complemented by Rough Cut Screening Session of three films by Algerian female filmmakers and two public screenings, “House in the Fields” by Tala Hadid on the first night, and oscar-nominated “Last Men in Aleppo” on the second day in the presence of director Feras Fayyad.
