Become an DC'19 volunteer

During the DC we are depending on the support from volunteers for various tasks and roles to make DC’19 happen and successful. The areas of support needed range from hospitality and guest coordination, to on-location support, video documentation, note taking and report writing.

By volunteering you can be at the very centre of the the DC, meet international experts, be involved in the discussions and experience what goes into organising an international, multi-day convention.

If you are interested in documentary and have some previous experience in the mentioned fields, are reliable and have a good command of English then we want to hear from you. Please send us your application at dc@documentary-convention.org by 1st April 2019!

  • your CV,
  • a brief cover letter, stating previous experience,
  • area(s) in DC’19 you are interested in and why,
  •  your language skills (Arabic, German, English),
  • city/ country of residence,
  • time you can dedicate to the DC. (volunteers active during DC’19 need to be available between 15-17 April, volunteers active in the run-up to the convention are expected to dedicate a minimum of five hours per week to the DC.) 

Please note: Volunteers will receive an all-in registration that includes convention catering and evening meals. While we will try and support accommodation in Leipzig, unfortunately we can not cover any travel costs. 

Note-taking & report-writing

Volunteers in this area will be attending the DC sessions and be responsible for minuting the major points and outcome. They will then feed-in and contribute to the overall outcome and presentation of the DC. Here you are contributing actively to the DC and will be able to attend several sessions within a module fully. We are looking for around five dedicated and experienced note-takers. If you think you should be one of them, then you ideally have:

  • An academic and/or documentary background.
  • Previous experience as note-taker/monitoring/report-writing.
  • Very good command of written English.
  • Be available from 15-17 April 2019 continuously.

Volunteering Positions

Hospitality & Guest Coordination

Volunteers in this area will be responsible for preparing and distributing welcome packages, manning the registration and guest support desk, as well as for chaperoning our international guests, and helping them to get around in Leipzig. A great opportunity to get in contact with international documentary professionals and experts. If you are interested in this area, then you should have:

  • Very good command of spoken English, Arabic and German are a plus.
  • Some previous experience with similar tasks in an event/conference setting.
  • Be a good communicator and enjoy professional contact with people.
  • Be available on a minimum of 2 consecutive days between 14-17 April 2019.
  • A good knowledge of Leipzig is a plus but not a must.

On-Location Support

Volunteers in this area will support with a variety of tasks right before and during the convention. Including setting up the rooms, making sure presentations are ready, panelists and experts are prepared and on hold for their sessions etc.. A very important role to ensure all is running smoothly and according to plan with the opportunity to join the sessions that you are responsible for. If you are interested in this area, then you should have:

  • Some previous experience with similar tasks in an event/conference setting.
  • Be stress resistant and enjoy taking over some responsibility.
  • Be a good communicator, who can stay calm in stressful situations.
  • Have a good command of English, Arabic and German are a plus.
  • Be available from 15-17 April.
  • If you have a driver’s licence and would be available to drive a rental car (small bus) please let us know.
